How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect mains power before accessing the sensor or control board.
- Verify sensor type: Check that the installed temperature sensor matches the original Salter part number and specification. Using a generic sensor with different resistance characteristics can trigger E17.
- Check sensor placement: Ensure the sensor probe is fully inserted into the oven cavity and not touching metal surfaces that could affect readings.
- Inspect sensor sheath: Look for kinks, crush damage, or exposed inner wires. Replace the sensor if the sheath is compromised.
- Replace sensor or PCB: If the correct sensor is fitted and wiring is intact but E17 persists, the main control PCB may be mis‑calibrated or faulty and should be replaced.
Warning: Do not attempt to modify sensor wiring or add resistors to "trick" the control; this can lead to unsafe temperatures.
