Possible Causes

Shorted NTC temperature sensor, Sensor wiring pinched to chassis, Moisture ingress into sensor probe, Shorted connector at main PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect mains power before inspection.

  • Access the sensor harness: Remove the rear panel to expose the temperature sensor wiring. Disconnect the sensor from the main PCB.
  • Measure resistance: With the sensor unplugged, measure resistance across its two terminals. A reading near 0 Ω indicates a shorted sensor. Compare to the expected room‑temperature value in the service manual if available.
  • Inspect for pinched wiring: Look where the harness passes through metal panels or brackets. If the insulation is crushed or cut and touching the chassis, repair or replace the harness using high‑temperature cable and grommets.
  • Check for moisture or contamination: If the oven has been steam‑cleaned or exposed to spills, moisture can enter the sensor. Allow the oven to dry fully (24 hours with door open) and retest. If E2 persists, replace the sensor.
  • Replace faulty components: Install a new Salter temperature sensor if it tests shorted. If the sensor and wiring are good but E2 remains, the main control PCB sensor input may be damaged and require replacement.

Warning: Do not bypass the sensor or operate the oven with known sensor faults.
