Possible Causes

Shorted temperature sensor, Stuck heater relay on control PCB, Faulty mechanical thermostat (if fitted), Miswired elements after previous repair

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off and unplug the oven immediately if it overheats. Allow it to cool fully.

  • Check sensor resistance: With the oven cold and unplugged, measure the temperature sensor. A very low resistance or short circuit indicates a faulty sensor that must be replaced.
  • Inspect control PCB: Look for a heater relay that appears welded or burnt. If the relay contacts are stuck closed, the elements may stay on continuously. Replace the main control PCB.
  • Verify wiring: If the oven has been serviced recently, confirm that element wires are connected to the correct terminals as per the Salter wiring diagram. Correct any miswiring.
  • Test mechanical thermostat (if present): On models with a rotary thermostat, check for continuity across the thermostat terminals at different settings. If it remains closed when turned to minimum or off, replace the thermostat.

Warning: Persistent overheating is a serious fire risk. Do not use the oven until the fault is resolved.
