Possible Causes
Open or shorted temperature probe, Broken sensor wiring harness, Loose sensor connector at control board, Damaged sensor from high heat or impact
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill before accessing wiring or control components.
- Locate the temperature probe: Inside the cook chamber, find the metal probe mounted to the side wall. Inspect it for physical damage, bending, or heavy corrosion.
- Check wiring connections: Remove the control panel access cover. Trace the sensor wires from the probe into the control board. Ensure the connector is fully seated and not corroded or burned.
- Inspect harness: Follow the sensor cable along the body of the grill. Look for pinched, cut, or melted insulation, especially where the cable passes through metal openings.
- Replace the probe if needed: If the probe is damaged or ERR3 persists after reseating connections, remove the mounting screws inside the cook chamber and gently pull the probe and cable out. Install a compatible Char‑Broil pellet grill temperature probe, routing the cable along the original path and securing it away from hot surfaces.
- Test operation: Reconnect the probe to the control board, reassemble the panel, plug in the grill, and start at a low setpoint. Confirm that the displayed temperature responds as the grill warms and that ERR3 does not reappear.
