Possible Causes
Probe wire insulation melted and shorted to grill body, Moisture intrusion into sensor connector, Damaged probe tip from scraping or impact, Faulty control board input circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill before inspecting wiring or the control panel.
- Inspect probe and cable: Locate the internal temperature probe and follow its cable. Look for melted insulation, bare wires touching metal, or kinks where the cable passes through the wall.
- Check connector for moisture: At the control board, disconnect the probe harness. Inspect the connector for moisture, corrosion, or soot. Dry thoroughly and clean with electrical contact cleaner if needed.
- Test with grill powered: With the probe disconnected, plug in the grill and see if ERR6 changes to a different error or shows a default temperature. If the error clears with the probe unplugged, the probe is likely faulty.
- Replace the probe: Remove the mounting screws inside the cook chamber and gently pull the probe and cable out. Install a new Char‑Broil compatible temperature probe, routing the cable away from hot surfaces and sharp edges. Reconnect to the control board.
- If problem persists: If a new probe does not resolve ERR6, the control board’s sensor input may be damaged. Consider replacing the control board or contacting a qualified service technician.
