Possible Causes

Defective power cord, Loose AC connection at control board, Tripped internal fuse, Faulty power supply section on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the grill before inspecting the power cord or internal wiring. Do not bypass fuses.

  • Check outlet and extension cord: Verify the wall outlet has proper voltage by testing with another appliance. Avoid using long or undersized extension cords that can cause voltage drop.
  • Inspect power cord: Examine the entire length of the grill’s power cord for cuts, kinks, or crushed sections. Replace the cord if any damage is found.
  • Access control board: Remove the access panel to reach the control board. Confirm that the AC input wires are firmly attached and that any spade connectors are tight.
  • Check internal fuse: Many Char‑Broil pellet grills have a small fuse on or near the control board. Visually inspect it; if it appears blown (broken filament or darkened glass), replace it with the exact same type and rating. If it blows again immediately, there is a deeper electrical fault that requires professional service.
  • Replace control board if necessary: If the power cord and fuse are good but ERR8 persists, the power supply circuitry on the control board may be defective. Replace the control board with a compatible Char‑Broil part.
