Possible Causes
Faulty pellet level sensor (if equipped), Sensor wiring loose or damaged, Sensor blocked by dust or debris, Control board misreading sensor signal
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off and unplug the grill before working around the hopper sensor or wiring.
- Clean hopper interior: Empty pellets into a clean container. Vacuum out dust and fines that may cover or block the sensor.
- Locate sensor: Identify the pellet level or hopper sensor (often mounted on the side of the hopper). Inspect for physical damage or misalignment.
- Check wiring: Follow the sensor wires to the control board. Ensure connectors are tight and wires are not pinched or cut.
- Test operation: Refill the hopper and power on the grill. If the HOPP error clears and the grill feeds normally, monitor for recurrence.
- Replace sensor if needed: If the error persists and wiring is intact, replace the pellet level sensor with a Char‑Broil compatible part.
