Possible Causes
Weak or failed igniter rod, Excessive ash in fire pot smothering pellets, Low airflow from fan, Wet pellets that will not ignite
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the grill off, unplug it, and let it cool. Do not repeatedly attempt ignition with a fire pot full of unburned pellets.
- Empty fire pot: Remove grates and diffuser. Scoop or vacuum out all pellets and ash from the fire pot.
- Check igniter glow: With the fire pot empty and grill reassembled enough for safe operation, plug in the grill and start an ignition cycle. After 2–3 minutes, look into the fire pot (without touching) to see if the igniter glows red. If it does not, the igniter is likely failed.
- Verify airflow: Confirm that the fan is running during ignition. Weak or no airflow can prevent ignition even with a working igniter.
- Use fresh pellets: Refill the hopper with dry pellets. Avoid pellets stored in humid environments.
- Replace igniter if needed: If the igniter does not glow, unplug the grill, remove the igniter from the fire pot, and install a new Char‑Broil igniter rod. Route wiring away from hot surfaces and moving parts.
