Possible Causes
Burned-out hot rod igniter, Loose igniter wiring at control board, Failed igniter relay on main control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the grill OFF, unplug it from power, and allow it to cool completely before working near the firepot.
- Check for glow: Remove the cooking grates and heat diffuser to expose the firepot. Plug the grill back in, start an ignition cycle with the lid open, and look through the firepot holes for a red/orange glow from the igniter rod within 2–4 minutes. If there is no glow, the igniter is likely bad.
- Inspect wiring: Turn power OFF and unplug. Access the lower cabinet or rear service panel and locate the igniter harness from the firepot to the control board. Ensure the connector is fully seated and wires are not pinched or burned.
- Test igniter resistance: Disconnect the igniter leads and use a multimeter set to ohms. A typical Gourmet Grillson hot rod should show moderate resistance (often 40–80 Ω). Infinite or zero ohms indicates a failed igniter.
- Replace igniter rod: Remove the mounting screw(s) holding the igniter in the firepot. Slide the old igniter out, route the new igniter lead the same way, secure it with screws, and reconnect to the control board harness. Avoid sharp bends and keep the lead away from hot surfaces.
- Test operation: Reassemble the firepot, diffuser, and grates. Run a startup cycle and confirm the igniter glows and pellets ignite within a few minutes.
