Possible Causes
Jammed auger with swollen pellets, Failed auger motor, Sheared auger drive pin, Loose auger motor wiring harness
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF, unplug the grill, and let it cool completely. Do not reach into the auger tube while connected to power.
- Check pellet condition: Open the hopper and inspect pellets. If they are swollen, crumbly, or damp, empty the hopper and vacuum out dust. Moist pellets commonly jam Gourmet Grillson augers.
- Inspect auger movement: With the hopper empty, plug in the grill and start it. Look down into the hopper to see if the auger shaft turns. If it hums but does not turn, it is likely jammed. Turn OFF and unplug immediately.
- Clear auger jam: Remove the hopper guard and access panel to reach the auger motor. Remove the auger motor mounting bolts and slide the motor off the auger shaft. Pull the auger out of the tube from the firepot side if accessible. Scrape off compacted pellets and vacuum out the tube.
- Check drive pin: Inspect the auger drive pin or set screw that couples the motor to the auger shaft. Replace if broken or missing.
- Test auger motor: With the motor disconnected from the auger, briefly power the grill and confirm the motor shaft spins smoothly. If it does not spin or just hums, replace the auger motor.
- Reassemble and test: Reinstall the auger, motor, and guards. Refill with fresh, dry pellets and run a startup cycle to confirm proper feed.
