Possible Causes
Low pellet level in hopper, Excessive ash buildup in firepot, Weak combustion fan, Incorrect startup sequence causing poor ignition
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF and unplug the grill. Allow it to cool fully before cleaning the firepot.
- Check pellet supply: Open the hopper and verify it is at least half full. Refill with dry, high-quality hardwood pellets. Avoid mixed or softwood pellets that produce excess ash.
- Clean firepot: Remove grates and heat diffuser. Vacuum out the firepot and surrounding burn area. Ensure the air holes in the firepot are not blocked by ash or slag.
- Inspect combustion fan: Access the fan compartment (usually behind a side or rear panel). Spin the fan blade by hand to ensure it moves freely. Check for grease buildup or obstructions. Tighten any loose mounting screws.
- Verify fan operation: With panels in place but grates removed, plug in and start the grill. Listen for the combustion fan running during startup. If the fan does not run, suspect a failed fan motor or control board output.
- Restart correctly: After cleaning, start the grill with the lid open until you see steady smoke and flame, then close the lid and set your desired temperature.
