Possible Causes
Grease fire in cook chamber, Excessive pellet feed due to stuck auger relay, RTD probe mounted too close to firebox, Blocked exhaust causing heat buildup
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If you suspect a grease fire, keep the lid closed, turn OFF the grill, and disconnect power. Do NOT open the lid until flames subside. Keep a Class B fire extinguisher nearby; never use water on a grease fire.
- Inspect for grease buildup: Once fully cooled, remove grates and drip tray. Clean heavy grease from the drip tray, grease channel, and grease bucket. Gourmet Grillson grills can overheat if grease ignites under the drip tray.
- Check exhaust: Ensure the chimney cap is not fully closed and that the exhaust path is clear of soot or nests. A blocked exhaust traps heat and can trigger ERR8.
- Verify pellet feed: Observe a startup cycle with an empty cook chamber. If the auger runs continuously without cycling, the auger relay on the control board may be stuck, causing overfeeding. Replace the control board if this is observed.
- Probe placement: Confirm the RTD probe is in its factory location and not bent toward the firebox or flame. Reposition or replace if damaged.
- Test again: After cleaning and inspection, run the grill at a low setpoint (e.g., 200°F) and monitor for stable operation without ERR8.
