Pellet grill starts but then shuts down with Er02; fan may not run or runs erratically.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF and unplug the grill before accessing the fan or control box.
- Listen for fan operation: On startup, you should hear the combustion fan running continuously. If it is silent or starts and stops, Er02 may be triggered.
- Inspect fan area: Remove the side or rear service panel to access the combustion fan. Check for grease buildup, debris, or bent housing that could block the blades. Clean with a soft brush and vacuum.
- Check wiring: Verify the fan connector is firmly plugged into the control board and that wires are not damaged or melted near the firebox.
- Spin test: With power disconnected, spin the fan blades by hand. They should rotate freely without grinding. Stiff or seized movement indicates a bad motor.
- Voltage test: With the grill plugged in and started, carefully measure voltage at the fan connector (use proper electrical safety). If rated voltage is present but the fan does not run, replace the fan. If no voltage is present, the control board or wiring is faulty.
Replace the combustion fan assembly if it is noisy, seized, or not starting under correct voltage. If a new fan does not resolve Er02, the main control board may require replacement.
