RTD / Temperature Probe Sensor Fault
Display shows Er04 and grill will not start; temperature reading may be very high or very low (e.g., -40°C or 300°C at room temperature).

Possible Causes
Open or shorted RTD temperature probe, Damaged probe wiring insulation, Loose RTD connector at control board, Corroded probe connection at grill body
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF and unplug the grill before inspecting wiring or the control board.
- Check displayed temperature: At room temperature, the display should read close to ambient. Extremely low or high readings indicate a sensor fault.
- Inspect the probe: Locate the grill temperature probe (usually on the side wall inside the cooking chamber). Check for physical damage, kinks, or melted insulation.
- Check connections: Trace the probe wire to the control box. Ensure the connector is fully seated and free of corrosion or moisture.
- Test resistance: Disconnect the probe and measure resistance with a multimeter. Typical RTD probes are around 1000–2000 Ω at room temperature (exact value depends on Outdoorchef model). Infinite or near 0 Ω indicates a failed probe.
- Replace probe: Remove the mounting screws inside the chamber, pull the old probe and wire through, route the new probe wire along the same path, and secure it away from direct flame. Reconnect to the control board and test.
If Er04 remains after installing a new probe and verifying wiring, the temperature input circuit on the control board may be damaged and require replacement.
