Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If you suspect a grease fire, keep the lid closed, turn the grill OFF, and unplug it. Do NOT open the lid until flames subside. Keep a Class B fire extinguisher nearby; never use water on a grease fire.
- Inspect interior: After the grill has completely cooled, remove grates and drip tray. Look for heavy grease buildup or signs of charring that indicate a grease fire.
- Clean thoroughly: Scrape and clean the drip tray, heat diffuser, and interior surfaces. Ensure grease channels and bucket are clear.
- Check temperature probe position: Confirm the probe is firmly mounted and not touching the grate or directly above the fire pot, which can cause false high readings.
- Observe pellet feed: On the next startup, watch the fire pot. If pellets continue to feed heavily even as temperature rises, the auger relay on the control board may be sticking.
- Reset and test: After cleaning and verifying probe placement, restart the grill at a low setpoint and monitor temperature stability.
If Er05 recurs without obvious grease fires and with normal pellet feed, the control board may be misreading temperature or driving the auger incorrectly and should be inspected or replaced by a technician.
