Possible Causes

Failed ambient safety sensor, Damaged sensor wiring, Sensor dislodged from mounting point, Control board sensor input failure

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the grill before accessing sensors or wiring.

  • Locate sensor: Some Outdoorchef pellet grills include an additional safety or ambient sensor near the exhaust or electronics compartment. Refer to your model's diagram.
  • Inspect mounting: Ensure the sensor is firmly attached and not hanging loose or touching hot metal directly.
  • Check wiring: Follow the sensor wires to the control board. Look for cuts, melted insulation, or loose connectors.
  • Replace sensor: If wiring is intact but Er09 persists, replace the ambient/safety sensor with the correct Outdoorchef part.

If a new sensor does not clear Er09, the control board's sensor input circuit may be defective and require replacement.
