Possible Causes
Impeller partially blocked, Wrong impeller fitted for motor size, Excessive system head due to undersized piping, Motor winding degradation
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Isolate power before opening the pump housing.
- 1. Inspect impeller: Remove the pump lid and basket. If necessary, disconnect unions and remove the pump wet end from the motor. Open the volute to access the impeller. Remove debris such as stones, tiles, or plastic that may be lodged in the impeller vanes.
- 2. Verify correct impeller: Compare the impeller part number with the Espa model specification. Using an oversized impeller on a smaller motor can cause overcurrent at high speed.
- 3. Check system design: If the pump is pushing through very long or narrow piping, consider partially closing a bypass or reducing speed to keep current within limits. Consult Espa hydraulic charts for your model.
- 4. Test at lower speed: Run the pump at a lower programmed speed. If it runs normally at low speed but trips at high speed even after cleaning, the motor windings may be weakened and the motor should be replaced.
