Possible Causes
Seized impeller due to debris, Worn or seized motor bearings, Failed start capacitor, Rotor jammed by foreign object
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker and wait for the motor to cool before touching.
- 1. Check for mechanical blockage: Remove the Espa pump lid and basket. Look inside the volute for stones, tiles, or other objects. Try to rotate the impeller by hand from the front; it should move freely.
- 2. Inspect motor fan: At the rear of the motor, try spinning the cooling fan. If it is stiff or does not turn, the bearings may be seized and the motor must be replaced.
- 3. Test start capacitor: Access the capacitor under its cover and visually inspect for bulging or leaks. Replace with an identical Espa-rated capacitor if suspect.
- 4. Do not keep resetting: Repeatedly energizing a locked motor can overheat and permanently damage the windings. Resolve the mechanical or capacitor issue before attempting further starts.
