Pump is very noisy, with a loud grinding or screeching sound from the motor end

Safety first: Turn off power and do not run the pump for extended periods with this noise, as it can lead to motor seizure.

• 1. Confirm noise source: Remove the pump lid and run briefly to confirm the noise is from the motor, not from cavitation or air in the pump.
• 2. Check for water leaks: Inspect the mechanical seal area between the motor and pump housing. A leak here can allow water into the bearings.
• 3. Replace motor or bearings: Espa motors can sometimes have bearings replaced by a motor repair shop, but often the most practical solution is to replace the complete motor assembly or motor-pump unit.
• 4. Replace mechanical seal: If bearings failed due to a leaking seal, always replace the mechanical seal at the same time as the motor or bearings.
