Possible Causes
Foreign object jammed in impeller, Swollen mechanical seal causing drag, Severely worn or rusted motor bearings, Rotor misalignment
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Shut off power at the breaker and verify the pump cannot start.
Steps to check:
- Open strainer housing: Remove the Jacuzzi pump lid and basket. Inspect for stones, toys, or debris lodged near the impeller eye.
- Manually rotate impeller: With power OFF, reach into the wet end and gently turn the impeller using your fingers or a plastic tool. It should rotate smoothly.
- Check for seal leakage: Look for white mineral buildup or rust at the motor flange, indicating a leaking mechanical seal that may have seized.
- Disassemble wet end if needed: If the impeller will not turn, remove the motor from the pump housing and inspect the impeller and seal assembly for damage.
Locked rotor conditions often require replacing the mechanical seal and sometimes the entire motor assembly if bearings are damaged.
