Saci Discharge Restriction / Dirty Filter

Pump runs but filter pressure is much higher than normal and flow is reduced

Possible Causes

Clogged sand or cartridge filter, Closed or partially closed return valves, Blocked return lines, Undersized piping for pump speed

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off the pump before changing valve positions or opening the filter.

  • Backwash or clean filter: For sand filters, perform a full backwash and rinse. For cartridge filters, remove and hose off or replace cartridges.
  • Open valves: Verify that all return‑side valves are fully open and that any water features are not restricting flow excessively.
  • Check for obstructions: Inspect return fittings in the pool for blockages (e.g. toys, leaves).
  • Adjust speed: On variable‑speed Saci pumps, reduce speed to a level appropriate for your filter and plumbing to avoid excessive pressure.

Operating with very high filter pressure can damage equipment; correct the restriction before continued use.
