Possible Causes

Defective ignition transformer, Broken ignition switch on control knob, Damaged spark electrode or wiring, Faulty control module

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off gas supply at the shutoff valve and disconnect electrical power. Work in a well-ventilated area and avoid open flames.

  • Manual ignition test: With gas turned back on but power off, carefully try lighting a burner with a match or lighter. If the burner lights and burns normally, the gas system is fine and the issue is with ignition only.
  • Inspect electrodes: Turn power off again. Remove burner caps and check the ceramic spark electrodes for cracks, heavy grease, or misalignment. Clean with a non-abrasive pad and realign so the tip is close to the burner.
  • Check wiring: Inspect ignition wires from the electrodes to the ignition transformer/module for burns or breaks. Replace damaged leads.
  • Test ignition clicks: Restore power and turn a knob to the ignition position. If there are no clicks on any burner, the ignition transformer or control module is likely faulty and should be replaced.
  • Knob switch: If only one burner fails to click, the microswitch on that burner’s control valve may be defective. Replace the ignition switch / valve microswitch for that knob.
  • Final safety check: After repair, verify that all burners ignite promptly and that there are no gas leaks (use soapy water on joints, never a flame).
