Possible Causes

Weak or damaged thermocouple, Misaligned thermocouple tip, Loose thermocouple connection at gas valve, Faulty flame failure valve

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off gas and power before disassembly. Gas work should comply with local regulations; in many regions, only licensed gas technicians may service gas components.

  • Clean and align: Ensure the burner cap is correctly seated. Clean the thermocouple tip and burner ports with a soft brush. The thermocouple tip should be directly in the flame when lit.
  • Hold knob longer: Light the burner and hold the knob depressed for 10–15 seconds to allow the thermocouple to heat fully. If the flame still goes out, the thermocouple may be weak.
  • Inspect connections: Access the underside of the hob and locate the thermocouple connection at the gas valve. Tighten the nut gently; do not overtighten.
  • Replace thermocouple: If the problem persists on a single burner, replace that burner’s thermocouple / flame failure sensor.
  • Valve replacement: If a new thermocouple does not resolve the issue, the gas safety valve for that burner may be defective and should be replaced by a qualified gas technician.
