Possible Causes
Wet or shorted ignition microswitch, Spilled liquid under control knobs, Faulty ignition transformer, Shorted ignition wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power to the hob. If gas is present, turn off gas supply as well.
- Dry the area: Remove control knobs and wipe away any visible moisture. Allow the hob to dry for several hours; use gentle warm air if safe.
- Inspect microswitches: Access the underside of the hob and locate the ignition microswitches on each gas valve. Check for signs of water ingress or corrosion.
- Test switches: With a multimeter, test each switch for proper open/closed operation when the knob is pressed. Replace any switch that remains closed or intermittent.
- Check wiring: Inspect ignition wiring for damage or shorts to chassis. Repair as needed.
- Ignition transformer: If switches and wiring are good but clicking persists, the ignition transformer/module may be faulty and should be replaced.
