Possible Causes

Defective flame sensor electrode, Poor grounding of burner, Faulty ignition module flame sensing circuit, Contaminated electrode insulator

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off gas supply and disconnect the cooktop from mains power before working on ignition parts.

  • Step 1 – Clean flame sensor: On many Balay gas hobs, the ignition electrode also serves as a flame sensor. Gently clean the ceramic insulator and metal tip with a non‑abrasive pad.
  • Step 2 – Check grounding: Ensure the burner base is clean and properly seated on the metal cooktop, providing a good ground path. Remove rust or heavy grease from contact areas.
  • Step 3 – Inspect electrode gap: Verify that the electrode tip is correctly positioned near the burner port (typically 3–5 mm). Carefully adjust if bent.
  • Step 4 – Wiring inspection (technician): Lift the top and inspect the flame sensing wire from the electrode to the ignition module. Repair or replace any damaged wiring.
  • Step 5 – Replace ignition module: If the sensor and wiring are good but F1 remains, replace the ignition module, which contains the flame detection circuitry.

Do not operate the cooktop with continuous sparking, as it can damage components and is a potential ignition source for leaked gas.
