Possible Causes
Defective gas safety valve coil, Loose valve wiring connector, Faulty control board output to valve, Internal short in valve assembly
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Close the main gas supply and disconnect the appliance from mains power. Gas components must be handled with extreme care.
- Step 1 – Check for obvious leaks: Do not use open flame. If you smell gas, ventilate the area immediately and do not operate electrical switches. Contact a gas technician.
- Step 2 – Visual inspection (technician): Access the underside of the cooktop and locate the gas valves. Inspect wiring connectors to each valve coil for secure fit and signs of overheating.
- Step 3 – Coil resistance test: With power off, measure resistance of each valve coil using a multimeter. Compare to Balay specifications. Replace any coil that is open or shorted.
- Step 4 – Control board output: If coils are good, the electronic control may not be energizing the valves correctly. Check for output voltage during ignition (technician only, with proper safety measures).
- Step 5 – Replace faulty parts: Replace the defective gas valve assembly or control board as indicated by tests.
Gas valve and control repairs should be performed only by certified gas appliance technicians.
