Gas burner goes out when the knob is released, even though it lights while pressed.

Safety first: Turn off gas supply before disassembling burner components. Allow all parts to cool.

• Step 1 – Clean and align thermocouple: Locate the small metal rod next to the burner (thermocouple). Clean its tip with a soft cloth and ensure it is positioned in the flame when the burner is lit.
• Step 2 – Hold knob longer: After lighting, keep the knob pressed for 5–10 seconds to allow the thermocouple to heat fully. If the flame then holds, this may be normal behavior.
• Step 3 – Check burner seating: Ensure the burner head and cap are correctly seated to provide a stable flame that fully envelops the thermocouple tip.
• Step 4 – Replace thermocouple (technician): If the flame still goes out, replace the thermocouple for that burner. Ensure proper routing and secure connection to the gas valve.
• Step 5 – Replace gas valve: If a new thermocouple does not solve the issue, the safety valve’s magnet may be weak and the valve assembly should be replaced.

Never bypass or short the flame failure device; it is a critical safety component.
