Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn all burner knobs to OFF and close the gas supply valve. Disconnect the appliance from mains power before internal checks.
- Step 1 – Check mains power: Verify that the cooktop is plugged in (if applicable) and that the circuit breaker or fuse is not tripped.
- Step 2 – Test other burners: If none of the burners spark, the ignition module or power supply is suspect. If only one burner fails, focus on that burner’s electrode and wiring.
- Step 3 – Inspect electrode and wire: Remove the burner cap and head. Check the electrode for cracks and ensure the wire is firmly attached underneath. Replace the electrode if damaged.
- Step 4 – Check ignition switches (technician): Lift the cooktop and inspect the small microswitches attached to each gas valve spindle. Ensure they click when the knob is turned and that their wiring is intact.
- Step 5 – Replace ignition module: If switches and wiring are good but there is still no spark on any burner, replace the ignition module.
As a temporary measure, you can light burners with a long match or gas lighter, but only if there are no gas leaks and the flame supervision devices are working.
