Gas burner lights but goes out when the knob is released.

Safety first: Work with gas components only if you are competent; otherwise contact a gas-safe technician.

• Hold knob longer: Depress the knob fully and hold it for 5–10 seconds after ignition to allow the thermocouple to heat.
• Clean thermocouple: Once cool, gently clean the thermocouple tip with fine steel wool to remove oxidation.
• Check flame contact: Ensure the flame touches the thermocouple tip. Adjust burner cap position if needed.
• Replace thermocouple: If the burner still goes out, replace the thermocouple for that burner.
• Valve check: If a new thermocouple does not solve the issue, the gas valve may be defective and should be replaced by a qualified technician.
