Possible Causes

Cooling fan not running, Fan blades obstructed by debris, Fan motor failure, Fan connector loose on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power at the breaker before accessing the underside of the hob.

Steps:

  • Listen for fan: When the hob is used at medium/high power, a fan should run. If you never hear it, suspect a fan fault.
  • Access the fan: Remove the hob from the worktop and locate the cooling fan assembly. Check that nothing (insulation, wiring, debris) is blocking the blades.
  • Spin test: Gently spin the fan by hand (with power off). It should rotate freely. If stiff or seized, replace the fan.
  • Check wiring: Ensure the fan connector is firmly plugged into the control or power board and that wires are not damaged.
  • Voltage test (advanced): With appropriate safety precautions, a technician can measure if the board supplies voltage to the fan when the hob is hot. If no voltage is present, the control board may be faulty.
  • Replace faulty component: Install a new cooling fan assembly or control board as required.
