Possible Causes
Faulty thermocouple, Thermocouple tip not properly in flame, Weak magnet in gas safety valve, Dirty burner causing flame lift-off
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Work with gas components only if you are competent. Turn off gas supply before removing parts.
Steps:
- Correct lighting procedure: Press and hold the knob for 5–10 seconds after ignition to allow the thermocouple to heat.
- Check flame contact: Ensure the flame directly heats the thermocouple tip. If not, clean the burner and adjust the cap so the flame pattern is correct.
- Inspect thermocouple: Look for kinks, cracks, or loose mounting. The tip should be firmly positioned near the burner.
- Replace thermocouple: If the flame still goes out when you release the knob, replace the thermocouple for that burner. If the problem persists, the gas safety valve may also need replacement by a gas technician.
