Possible Causes
Clogged burner cap or ports, Wet or dirty ignition electrode, No gas supply or closed gas valve, Faulty spark generator (ignition module)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn all burner knobs to OFF. If you smell gas, do not ignite any flames or operate electrical switches; ventilate the area and close the gas supply valve.
Steps:
- Check gas supply: Ensure the main gas valve to the appliance is open and that other gas appliances in the home work.
- Clean burner parts: Remove the burner cap and head. Clean the ports with a soft brush or toothpick to remove food or grease. Do not enlarge the holes.
- Dry the igniter: If the burner was recently cleaned or boiled over, moisture may be on the electrode. Gently dry the ceramic igniter with a cloth and allow time to air dry.
- Correct assembly: Refit the burner head and cap correctly, ensuring they sit flat and centered.
- Test ignition: Turn the knob to ignite. If there is no clicking, the spark generator or switch harness may be faulty and require replacement.
