Electric cooktop or range trips the household circuit breaker when a zone is turned on

Safety first: Do not repeatedly reset a breaker that trips immediately. Risk of fire or shock.

• Identify faulty zone: Turn on each zone one at a time to see which one causes the trip (if safe to do so).
• Inspect wiring: With power off, remove the top or rear panel and check for burnt or pinched wires, especially near the affected zone.
• Check element: Disconnect the suspect element and test insulation to ground with a meter. Replace the element if it is shorted.
• Dry unit: If water has entered the cooktop, allow it to dry completely before retesting.
