Ignition Failure at Burner
Gas burner will not ignite or takes a long time to light
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Clogged burner ports, Misaligned burner cap, Weak or no spark at electrode, Low gas pressure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the burner and wait for gas to disperse before attempting relight. Do not use open flames near gas leaks.
- Clean burner: Remove the burner cap and head. Clean ports with a soft brush or toothpick (do not enlarge holes). Dry thoroughly.
- Re-seat burner cap: Ensure the cap sits flat and centered on the burner base.
- Check spark: Turn the knob to ignite and observe the electrode. If there is no spark, inspect the electrode and wiring; replace the spark electrode if cracked or worn.
- Gas supply: Verify other gas appliances work correctly. If all are weak, contact your gas supplier or a technician to check pressure.
