Possible Causes
Faulty thermocouple not generating enough voltage, Thermocouple tip not correctly positioned in flame, Loose thermocouple connection at gas valve, Defective gas safety valve
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Work only on cool burners. Do not attempt to dismantle gas valves yourself.
- Lighting technique: Press the knob fully in, ignite the burner, and hold for 5–10 seconds to allow the thermocouple to heat. Then release slowly.
- Check flame contact: Ensure the flame touches the thermocouple tip. If the flame is small or deflected, clean the burner ports and realign the cap.
- Visual inspection: Check that the thermocouple is not bent away from the flame or heavily sooted.
- If problem persists: A Gas Safe‑registered engineer should test and replace the thermocouple or gas valve as needed.
