Possible Causes
Weak or open bake igniter, failed gas safety valve, broken igniter wiring, control not sending voltage to igniter
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Danger: Gas leaks and ignition components can be hazardous. Turn off gas supply and power before servicing. If you smell gas continuously, evacuate and contact your gas supplier.
- Observe igniter: Start a Bake cycle and look through the oven bottom panel. If the igniter does not glow within 30–60 seconds, it may be faulty.
- Check for weak glow: If the igniter glows but the burner never lights, the igniter may be too weak (low current) to open the gas valve and should be replaced.
- Access igniter: Remove oven racks and bottom panel to expose the burner and igniter. Disconnect power and gas before removing the igniter.
- Replace igniter: Install the OEM KitchenAid bake igniter, matching the connector type. Do not touch the new igniter element with bare fingers.
- Reassemble and test: Restore gas and power, then test Bake. The burner should ignite within a few seconds of the igniter glowing.
