Possible Causes
Wet or dirty ignition electrode, Faulty ignition switch in control knob, Shorted ignition wiring, Defective spark module
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn all burner knobs to OFF. If sparking continues, disconnect the cooktop from mains power. Allow burners to cool before cleaning.
User steps:
- Remove burner caps and clean around the ignition electrodes with a soft brush and mild detergent. Dry thoroughly.
- Ensure no water or cleaning fluid remains around the electrodes or in the burner wells.
- Restore power and test again.
Technician steps:
- Inspect the ignition switches on the gas valves (often microswitches actuated by the knobs) for sticking or shorting.
- Check ignition wiring for insulation damage or moisture ingress.
- Test the spark module outputs; if it continues to fire when no switches are closed, replace the module.
- Replace any faulty ignition switches or wiring harnesses.
