Possible Causes
Spillage causing shorted ignition switch, Stuck microswitch on control knob, Moisture on ignition electrodes, Faulty ignition module
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the hob at the mains (if electric ignition) and close the gas supply if you smell gas. Do not leave continuous sparking unattended.
- Dry the hob: If the issue started after a spill or cleaning, unplug or isolate the hob and allow it to dry for 12–24 hours. Use a fan to speed drying.
- Clean around knobs: Remove control knobs and wipe around the stems to remove sticky residue that may hold microswitches closed.
- Test each knob: With power restored, turn each knob to ignite and back to off, listening for the click to stop. A single faulty switch will cause sparking whenever power is on.
- Replace faulty switch or module: A technician can identify and replace the defective ignition switch or ignition module.
