Possible Causes
Cold or dirty thermocouple, Weak flame not reaching sensor, Faulty thermocouple, Defective flame safety valve
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Gas safety: Ensure adequate ventilation and never hold the knob in for extended periods if the flame is unstable.
- Clean thermocouple:
- Turn off gas and power.
- Locate the thermocouple (small metal rod near the burner).
- Gently clean with fine abrasive pad to remove oxidation and grease.
- Check flame quality: Light the burner and ensure the flame is blue and stable, directly contacting the thermocouple tip. Clean burner ports if flame is weak or yellow.
- Hold knob longer: After ignition, keep the knob pressed in for 5–10 seconds to allow the thermocouple to heat fully, then release.
- If flame still goes out: The thermocouple or flame safety valve likely needs replacement by a certified gas technician.
