Possible Causes
Dirty or wet ignition electrode, Misaligned burner cap or head, Faulty spark generator, Worn ignition switch in control knob
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Gas safety: If you smell strong gas, turn off the burner and main gas supply, ventilate the room, and do not use open flames or electrical switches. Call a gas professional if the smell persists.
- Clean burner and electrode:
- Turn off gas and power.
- Remove burner cap and head.
- Clean the ignition electrode tip with a soft brush and ensure no food or grease is bridging to the burner body.
- Clean burner ports with a soft brush or wooden toothpick (do not enlarge holes).
- Reassemble correctly: Ensure the burner head and cap are properly seated and level.
- Dry thoroughly: If recently cleaned, moisture may be present. Allow the hob to dry completely before testing.
- If no clicking or spark: The spark generator or ignition switch may be faulty. A technician should test and replace the defective component.
