Cooktop sensor short-circuit error; burners may be disabled.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power at the breaker or unplug the range. Do not continue using the cooktop until the fault is resolved.
Visual inspection:
- Pull the range forward and remove the rear cover.
- Locate the surface sensor harness and inspect for melted insulation, pinched wires, or moisture.
- Dry any visible moisture and clean connectors with electronic contact cleaner if available.
Testing:
- With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor from the PCB.
- Measure resistance across the sensor leads. A reading near 0 ohms indicates a shorted sensor; replace it.
- If the sensor tests normal, inspect the harness for continuity to ground (should be open). Repair or replace damaged wiring.
PCB check: If sensor and wiring are confirmed good but C-23 persists, the main PCB sensor input may be shorted internally and will need replacement by a qualified technician.
