Possible Causes
Faulty thermocouple, Misaligned thermocouple tip not in flame, Loose thermocouple connection at gas valve, Defective safety gas valve
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Always ensure the burner is off before disassembling parts. If you smell gas, close the gas supply and ventilate.
User checks:
- Light the burner and hold the knob pressed for 10–15 seconds to allow the thermocouple to heat. If the flame still goes out, service is needed.
- Ensure the burner cap is correctly positioned so the flame contacts the thermocouple tip.
Technician checks:
- Inspect the thermocouple tip position relative to the flame; adjust if necessary.
- Test thermocouple output (mV) when heated; replace if below specification.
- Check the connection at the gas safety valve for tightness.
- If a new thermocouple does not resolve the issue, replace the gas safety valve for that burner.
