Possible Causes
Open or shorted oven temperature sensor, Damaged sensor wiring harness, Faulty connection at control board sensor terminals
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power at the breaker. Internal metal edges can be sharp; wear gloves.
Steps:
- Access sensor: Open the oven door and locate the temperature sensor probe on the rear wall. Remove the mounting screws and gently pull the sensor forward to access the connector.
- Check connection: Inspect the plug for corrosion or loose pins. Reseat the connector and reinstall the sensor. Restore power and test. If E11 returns, continue.
- Measure resistance: With power off and sensor disconnected, measure resistance across the sensor leads. At room temperature, most Sub-Zero/Wolf sensors read around 1080 Ω at 70°F (21°C). Compare to the service manual chart.
- Replace sensor: If the sensor is open, shorted, or significantly out of range, replace it with the correct OEM oven temperature sensor (RTD). Route the harness away from hot surfaces and sharp edges.
- Control check: If a known-good sensor still results in E11, the electronic oven control (EOC) may have a defective sensor input and require replacement.
Note: Always verify wiring integrity between the sensor connector and the control board before condemning the control.
