Possible Causes

Dirty or wet spark electrode, Misaligned burner cap, Cracked electrode insulator

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off the burner knob. If you smell a strong gas odor, turn off the gas supply and ventilate the area before proceeding.

Steps:

  • Check burner cap placement: Remove the burner cap and base (if removable). Clean and reinstall, ensuring the cap sits flat and centered on the burner head.
  • Clean electrode: Gently clean the spark electrode tip with a soft brush or non-abrasive pad to remove grease and carbon. Avoid bending the electrode.
  • Dry moisture: If the cooktop was recently cleaned, dry the area thoroughly with a towel and allow time for internal moisture to evaporate.
  • Inspect for cracks: Examine the white ceramic insulator of the electrode. If cracked or chipped, replace the electrode with the correct OEM part.
  • Test ignition: Restore gas and test the burner. If it still does not light but others do, the burner head ports may be clogged; clean them with a soft brush or wooden toothpick (never metal wire that can enlarge ports).

Warning: Do not repeatedly attempt ignition if the burner does not light; accumulated gas can ignite suddenly.
