Possible Causes
Burned-out surface element, Loose or burned terminal block at element, Failed infinite heat control switch, Broken wiring to element
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before removing any elements or panels.
- Swap test: If your range uses plug-in coil elements, swap the non-heating element with a working one of the same size. If the problem follows the element, replace the surface element.
- Check receptacle: Inspect the element receptacle for burned contacts or melted plastic. Replace the element receptacle kit if damaged.
- Glass-top models: For radiant elements under glass, remove the top and visually inspect the element for breaks or burn spots. Test continuity with a multimeter; replace if open.
- Infinite switch: If the element tests good, the control (infinite) switch may be faulty. Test for output voltage when turned on. Replace the infinite switch if no output is present.
