Possible Causes

Failed oven temperature sensor, Shorted sensor wiring harness, Stuck relay on control board, Incorrect oven calibration or door not sealing

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker and allow the oven to cool completely before inspection.

  • Check for obvious overheating: Inspect the oven cavity for melted liners, foil on the bottom, or blocked vents that could trap heat. Remove any foil or liners covering vents.
  • Test the oven sensor: Access the rear of the range or remove the back panel. Locate the oven temperature sensor probe inside the oven (usually a thin metal rod at the back wall). With power off, disconnect the sensor connector and measure resistance with a multimeter. At room temperature (~70°F / 21°C) it should read about 1080–1100 Ω. If far outside this range, replace the sensor.
  • Inspect wiring: Check the sensor harness from the probe to the control board for pinched, burned, or shorted wires. Repair or replace damaged wiring.
  • Control board check: If the sensor tests good and wiring is intact, the relay on the electronic oven control may be stuck closed, causing runaway heat. Replace the electronic oven control board.
  • Door seal: Inspect the oven door gasket for gaps or tears that could affect temperature readings. Replace if damaged.
