Possible Causes

Shorted oven temperature sensor, sensor out of calibration, stuck closed oven relay on main control board, poor ventilation around appliance

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off the cooker at the wall isolator and allow the oven to cool completely before inspection.

  • Check ventilation: Ensure there is adequate space around the cooker as per Zanussi installation instructions. Blocked vents or tightly fitted cabinetry can cause overheating.
  • Visual inspection of sensor: Inside the oven cavity, locate the temperature sensor probe (usually at the rear or top). Make sure it is firmly fixed and not bent or touching the oven walls, which can cause false readings.
  • Test the sensor: With power OFF, access the rear of the cooker, disconnect the sensor, and measure its resistance at room temperature. Compare to the expected value from the service manual. Replace the sensor if resistance is far out of range.
  • Check control relays: If the oven continues heating even when switched off at the control panel (but still powered at the wall), the heating element relay on the main control board may be welded closed. In this case, the control board must be replaced.
  • Reset and test: After any part replacement, restore power and run the oven at a moderate temperature (e.g. 160°C) while monitoring. If E02 does not reappear and temperature seems stable, the issue is likely resolved.

Warning: Do not continue using an oven that overheats or fails to switch off, as this is a fire risk. Seek professional service if unsure.
