Possible Causes
Failed compressor start relay or PTC, Faulty compressor inverter module (on inverter models), Open compressor winding, Faulty main control board output to compressor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the refrigerator. Work at the rear of the appliance carefully; mains voltage is present at the compressor terminals.
E8 is associated with compressor starting or drive issues.
- Access compressor area: Remove the rear lower cover to expose the compressor, start device, and wiring.
- Check start relay/PTC: On non-inverter Candy models, remove the start relay/PTC from the compressor. Shake it gently; if it rattles or shows burn marks, it may be faulty.
- Measure compressor windings: With the start device removed and power disconnected, measure resistance between compressor pins. All combinations should show low but non-zero resistance; an open or shorted winding indicates a bad compressor.
- Inverter models: If equipped with an external inverter module, inspect it for burn marks and test DC supply from the PCB according to the service manual.
- Replace faulty parts: Replace the start relay/PTC or inverter module with the correct Candy part if defective.
- Technician recommended: If the compressor windings are faulty or E8 persists after replacing the start device, a sealed system/compressor replacement is required and must be done by a licensed refrigeration technician.
