Possible Causes
Blocked defrost drain channel, Frozen drain outlet, Failed drain heater (on some no-frost Candy models), Misaligned drain tube to drip tray
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the refrigerator before defrosting or removing panels.
E9 often indicates a defrost water drainage problem.
- Access drain area: Remove freezer drawers and the rear inner panel to expose the evaporator and drain trough beneath it.
- Clear ice: Use warm (not boiling) water to melt ice in the drain trough and hole. A turkey baster or syringe can help flush the drain.
- Check drain tube: At the back of the fridge, locate the drain tube leading to the drip tray above the compressor. Remove and clean it with warm water and a flexible brush.
- Inspect drain heater (if present): Some Candy models have a small heater near the drain hole. Test for continuity; replace if open.
- Reassemble and test: Ensure the drain tube is properly seated in the drip tray and not kinked. Restore power and monitor for further leaks or E9 reoccurrence.
