Possible Causes
Front bumper jammed by debris, Bumper springs dislodged, Bumper infrared sensors blocked by dust, Bumper switch or sensor board failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Power OFF the robot and remove it from the dock.
- 1. Check bumper movement: Gently press the front bumper in and release it. It should move freely and spring back evenly across its length. If it feels stuck on one side, inspect for lodged debris.
- 2. Clean the bumper gap: Use a soft brush or compressed air to clean the gap between the bumper and the robot body. Remove any crumbs, hair, or small objects.
- 3. Clean obstacle sensors: Many Amazon Basics robot vacuums have IR obstacle sensors behind the bumper or on the front face. Wipe the sensor windows with a soft, dry cloth.
- 4. Inspect bumper springs and mounts: If comfortable, remove the front bumper screws and lift the bumper off. Check that the springs are intact and seated correctly. Re-seat or replace if damaged.
- 5. Reassemble and test: Reinstall the bumper, ensuring it clicks and moves freely. Power ON and start a cleaning cycle.
- 6. If E4 persists: The bumper sensor board or bumper switch assembly may be faulty. Replacement involves opening the chassis and swapping the sensor PCB. Seek professional service if under warranty.
